About Us
Palmetto Canine Training is located in West Columbia, South Carolina
near the beautiful Congaree and Saluda rivers. We are also close to our
State Museum and Zoo.
We are an all breed training center with programs in
housetraining, obedience, behavior, protection and custom training tailored
to your requests.
I am a certified professional master trainer and dog
behaviorist.
Our training programs start with teaching our
clients how the structure of the pack order works. Once this is understood we can move on to
voice and body communication, exercise, discipline, rewards, etc.
No two dogs or humans are the same. After we evaluate the dog to determine
his ability to learn we then can prepare a program that will meet the
owner's needs.
Dog training takes time, patience, hard work and
dedication.
We do all the work. You enjoy the benefit!
About Our Prices
Our In-Kennel
Obedience and Private Class Training Programs do not have a
set rate. Our prices depend on the particular dog, its age, any behavior
problems, etc.
Example, an owner whose German
Shepherd just bit his neighbor is a different situation than an owner with a
new puppy needing help in early training.
When shopping for a dog trainer or
behaviorist look at the skills, credentials, experience, who will
train your dog, don't hire a company, hire a person, and don't hire a
salesman who comes to your home instead of a dog trainer. Always ask for
references.
What is In-Kennel Training?
There are four phases in dog training. The teaching,
correction, proofing and maintance phases. The teaching phase teaches the
dog to associate a command with a physical action he can understand. The
correction phase is where we teach the dog he must comply the first time we
give a command. This phase helps the dog understand the principles to know
how to respond to corrections. The proofing phase is where we expose the dog
to different environments, and distractions and repeat them over and over
until the dog understands the command is more important than distractions.
The trainer must have problem solving skills and plenty-of-time to devote to
this critical need with patience and consistency.
Your dog will stay with us during in-kennel training and
the Master Trainer will take your dog through the first two phases of
training. Maintaining the training will be YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. Once you dog
completes his program we give you a handler's class to teach, how to
give a command with hand signals, and correcting mistakes properly. We
include free follow-up lessons for the life of your dog. Our goal is to make
you and your dog successful, period.
